These all have some sort of footing in lore depending on which locations they are found in, but Peng is much more unique. Most of these adverts will refer to Dead Space lore if not something specific players interact with, whether they mention workplace safety, the player’s tools, that players have entered into the Ishimura’s Mining Deck, or asking players to apply themselves to the Sovereign Colonies Armed Forces. Peng advertisements blend in with other signage, though, like the USG Ishimura’s many work-related notices and company-mandated blurbs. Peng is featured prolifically throughout the Dead Space universe in posters, signage, and other advertisements. However, there is other lore plastered throughout the Ishimura that is more benign and easy to miss if players do not stop to take in its environmental art. This represents how mad everyone has become after being influenced by the Red Marker. In EA Motive’s remake, the Ishimura is stunningly realized and upscaled from how fans may remember it, and because Isaac can talk he is able to contribute to conversations about what has occurred.Įnvironmental storytelling in Dead Space is often graphic and macabre, such as seeing Ishimura crew members brutally murdering others and committing suicide in extravagant ways. Learning what happened aboard the USG Ishimura is fascinating, but it is not necessary for the player's enjoyment of the present action. Especially in the original Dead Space, almost all lore is conveyed through environmental storytelling, if not audio and video logs. ![]() Dead Space’s world-building is some of the most effective in gaming because of how subtle and nuanced it can be. ![]()
